Week 3
Well this week was full of crazy stuff. On Monday we went and ate fufu and light soup with an investigator named Marium. She has a big family, but her older kids, Peter and Paul are 15 and interested as well. Anyways they fed us and then we taught them the Restoration on Wednesday. I'm hoping the best for them. They are good people, and they told us they would come to church on Sunday but they didn't.
Throughout the week we made progress with Ephraim and Neilson as well. They both want to be baptized which is great. We have to teach Neilson one more lesson, and He can be baptized, and for Ephraim he needs to make it to Church. He's been traveling the last couple of Sundays and hasn't been able to make it. He's not traveling again for 3 months so he will be able to make it to Church for the first time this Sunday.
As for Joseph I got to baptize him yesterday. I am so happy for him. He is a stud and the spirit was very strong during the service. I also got to baptize the Branch President's daughter because she just turned 8. It was an awesome experience. That night Joseph texted us and he told us a girl was asking him questions and we helped him answer them. The night ended with Joseph's friend wanting to be taught by us. Joseph got baptized, and then that night got us a referral which was awesome. He also answered her questions perfectly with little help from us.
We have been teaching a lady named Lydia and she will be traveling to Accra for a month, so we have to wait on her to teach but she is very interested.
We also have been doing Bible studies with a man named Asante Solomon, and he is a stud. It's hard for us to find time to meet with him, because of his work. He is also a Sunday school teacher at the Pentecost church so he somewhat knows the Bible. We have been teaching him Doctrine for Genesis and Exodus and he really likes our teachings, and how we always offer to help him and stick around just to chat with him and see how he is doing. Next time we are able to meet with him. We are going to introduce the Book of Mormon and we pray that the spirit will be there and that he will understand the lesson.
We also met a pastor named Ernest who wants us to Bible study with him and teach about our church, so it will be interesting to see how that goes. His schedule also makes it hard to meet with him.
Elder Gilbert got sick on Friday, and we actually had to go to the hospital to try and get a diagnosis. It was a pretty ghetto hospital and I wish I would've taken pictures. Anyway they prescribed him some medications and as Elder Gilbert was paying for them he passed out. We had to go to the ER which was super ghetto and I saw some very sad, and unpleasant things. Elder Gilbert had to get an IV and a malaria test, which came back negative. They took his blood sugar and it was way low. They gave him a malt drink and some hydration packets and more IV until he felt better then we left. We got back to the apartment at 11 pm that night. Elder Gilbert still has a gnarly stomach bug, but he is getting better slowly.
It's been a pretty crazy week and I'm pretty tired. I've had some awesome experiences.
Yesterday Elder Gilbert was feeling a little worse than usual and he asked me for a Priesthood blessing. I gave him a blessing and it was a super cool experience. It was the first blessing I've ever given, so it was a little scary. We both felt the spirit during the blessing. He is slowly getting better since the blessing.
Anyway that's all I have for this week. Love and miss you all.
-Elder Willden
On our phone calls with Elder Willden, he explains that when they eat with families, they offer to go buy ingredients if the family will cook the food because the families have so little. They buy enough to feed the family as well and leave the left overs for them. However, some families have a little more and will only let them buy very little.
